Ergonomics & Workplace Consultation

Ergonomics

Ergonomics is an applied science concerned with designing work and task spaces such that people and things interact most efficiently and safely. Drawing from biotechnology, human factors engineering, and perceptual psychology…fitting the design of the work environment to the design of the worker.
Alliant Physical Therapy can provide a variety of injury prevention services including pre-employment screens, ergonomics, early intervention, wellness, and it’s own special brand of facilitating ‘internal ergonomics’ or optimal use of whole self via its unique certification and training in The Feldenkrais Method®
…. i.e. well beyond ineffective and common stretch routines and usual posture prescriptions – which fail to effectively adapt to changing or unexpected conditions.
The aim of the work is to condition a body to move & adapt to any situation with equal ease – not through muscular strength alone and isolated stretches – but an increased consciousness of how it works.

 Human Performance Enhancement

Human Performance Technology is systematic approach to improving individual and organizational leadership performance. This can also include both individual and team applications through Alliant’s biopsychosocial and organizational systems renewal model for the modulation of stress responses, emotional reactivity, negative automatic thoughts using a combination of cognitive behavioral and more meditative & mediational somato-emotional approaches augmented by biofeedback and neurofeedback physiological assessments, as well as creative thinking.

Our Goal is to comprehensively develop more naturally resilient humans for the pursuit of both meaningful and effective fulfillment in both work and life.

An Ergonomic Endorsement

Alliant affiliate Deborah Lee PTA and Guild Certified Feldenkrais PractitionerCM , inventor of the Sitts Perfect ergonomic cushion, has launched a Kickstarter to offer new products. Check out the embedded video to learn more about what Sitts Perfect can do for you! In the video, you will hear Alliant clinic director Tim Sobie, PT, Ph.D., describe and endorse her product himself.

Quite simply, this is one of the best adaptive support devices for the problem of occupational sitting that I have seen in a long time.

Unlike usual ‘back rests’ and typical lumbar contour pillows and rolls, , the innovative SITTS sits UNDER the Spine –not behind it – for enabling true active support longitudinally through the spine.
Unlike wedge inclines and pre-designed seat contours, the SITTS is designed to optimize a comfortable platform of both support and predictability – but yet also permits freedom of dynamic movement as well. This is especially true of functional inter-relationships intricately involved within the human pelvis & hips in relation to ease of breathing and head-neck orientation – multiple areas that are typically overlooked in their contribution to low back and spine problems.

I highly recommend the SITTS support device to ergonomics consultants, individuals in need of comfort and ease while sitting, as well as a tool for therapists to optimize a platform base for transitional movement, dynamic balance, and transfer training – to reduce the deteriorating effects of our sit culture.

SITTS is an innovative sitting device designed to naturally provide back pain relief by optimizing your posture and reducing the stress poor posture places on your back muscles. Our cushions comfortably force you to sit up straight anytime you sit. The patented shape relaxes glute muscles relieving pressure and strain on the tailbone and sitz bone, while improving circulation to the legs and lower back. SITTS Posture Cushions work on any type of seats, hard or soft, including office chairs, sofas and car seats.
