Several years ago, I attended an introductory spinal manipulation laboratory and training course entitled “ High-Velocity Low-Amplitude Thrust Manipulation of the Spine, Pelvis, & Thorax.” Lecture & Lab Course Practicum by Dr. James Dunning of the Spinal Manipulation Institute, March 2009.

I can attest that the skills honed in chiropractic manipulation training – whether through traditional high velocity thrust techniques, or through the use of activator devices and split tables, etc. – are indeed highly developed skill sets - and that they are useful for reflex inhibition of acute pain and stiffness and/or hypertonic muscular symptoms that occur regional to the spine (i.e. ‘subluxations’).

However, they were never meant / nor intended to become a continuing lifestyle.

No one outside your body should be 100% responsible for keeping your body aligned, proportioned, or ‘in adjustment’ - as this is ultimately your job. The good chiropractors know this.

In fact, through Feldenkrais movements, you can become spontaneously “self-adjusting” through developing a more conscious and autonomous body-in-brain neurological landscape that emerges and automatically coordinates your whole self as you engage everyday movement; thereby revitalizing the course and quality of the usual and everyday activities which matter most.
This video from Marek Wyszynski, PT, GCFP - my colleague in New York (dba Physical Therapy and Feldenkrais NYC) - demonstrates at least one way how a Feldenkrais-based Physical Therapy approach can assist a person in working with their spine – and its corresponding functional relationships:
